William H. “Bill” Lozier, 77 of Des Moines, Iowa passed away surrounded by the love of his family Tuesday, February 26, 2013 after a courageous struggle with multiple ailments. He was born on February 4th, 1936 to the late Robert (Bob) and Majetta (Midge) Lozier.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Barbara; his three daughters, Sherri Gindlesperger (Russ) of Aurora, CO, Lynda
Lozier of Aurora, CO and Deborah Lozier (Eivind Sarto) of Oakland CA; grandchild, Robert “Robbie” Miller of Aurora, CO; his brother Robert “Bob” Lozier of Chicago, IL; and niece, Melanie (Greg) Henke of Dallas, TX. His fourth “child” was his cherished business, Lozier’s Heating and Cooling in Des Moines. Initially Clark Plumbing & Heating, Bill purchased the business in 1976 with his brother Bob and built the company into a thriving community business, employing more than 30 people at the time of his retirement. He sold the business to Tom Gumm and Gary Pennington, two long time employees, who have continued to maintain Bill’s high standards of good service and honest salesmanship.
Self-proclaimed “Charming Billy” to his friends, he loved playing bridge with his cronies and enjoyed a round with his golfing buddies in sunny Naples, FL. Bill’s “higher power” was AA, and for 38 years he was a proud and devoted member, helping hundreds of people join his path of sobriety. His hobby was making natural grain wooden artifacts in his well-equipped shop, turning beautiful bowls from laminated stripes of color. He embraced life and had a frank way of speaking combined with a natural wit as a story teller. He befriended all who would embrace him, including the neighborhood dogs who eagerly greeted him for their daily treat. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but the memory of his kind, big heart will live on.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at The Vineyards Country Club in Naples. For online condolences, please go to www.hodgesfhatnaplesmg.com. A funeral will follow in Des Moines, IA in the spring.
