He was born in Marks, Mississippi, moving to Florida with his parents as a young boy and settling in Naples. He graduated from Naples High School in 1970 and the following year enlisted in the US Air Force. He proudly served his country for eight years and then returned to his hometown, Naples, Florida. After his return he worked as a meat cutter for several years. David loved the outdoors and was avid hunter and fisherman, becoming the State Nuisance Alligator Trapper for Collier County in 1984. He loved serving and educating his community about alligators.
David attended the Tree of Life Church and loved being part of the church security team and serving others.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dagmar; three daughters, Jennifer (Eric) Long, Frances (Rick) Priller and Dasha Regel; seven grandchildren, David Long and his fiancée, Cheyenne, Molly Long, Robert Long; Vance Priller, Haley (Nick) Mullins, Marta Priller and Josie Priller; brother-in-law, Vsevolod “Poppy” (Lorraine) Pospisil. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Cecil Regel; and two brothers, Howard and Charles “Chuck” Regel.
Services will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Avenue North, Naples, Florida on Saturday, April 8th at 1:30 pm with visitation starting at 1:00. Interment with military honors will take place immediately following. The family invites you to join them for refreshments and sharing of memories after the service.
