Unexpectedly, at age 83, Paul Brendan Sullivan, of Westport Harbor, Mass. and Naples, Fla., peacefully passed away on Feb. 8, 2014 at home. Born on April 24, 1930 in Fall River, Mass. to Kathleen (Long) Sullivan and Edward Sullivan, Paul joins his parents and sister, Anne Marie Sullivan, in Heaven. He is survived by his brothers, Edward Sullivan and Kenneth Sullivan. He also leaves his adored wife of 53 years, Ann M. Sullivan, his daughter Julia (Atwood) of Mansfield, Mass. and son, John, of Denver, Colo. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Jackson P. Atwood, Sydney A. Atwood, Abigail J. Sullivan and Noah R. Sullivan, who deeply loved their unique, generous and unforgettable “Grandpa Paul.”
Paul enjoyed a very full, fun and interesting life. A graduate of Coyle High School, Providence College (B.S.) and Babson College, Paul also served our country in the Army during the Korean War. In 1956, he founded PBS Insurance, an agency that continues to thrive today.
A hard worker, Paul balanced his career with a lifetime of world travels with his wife and children. Paul also enjoyed time on the ski slopes and the Acoaxet tennis courts and golf course. He maintained a love/hate relationship with golf, sustained mostly to enjoy the company of his very dear golf buddies. Unpretentious, a loyal friend, husband and father and the epitome of a true “character,” Paul was a huge presence that will be sadly missed. His heartbroken family and friends will remember him under his beach umbrella at Elephant Rock Beach Club, out to dinner with his wife and friends and walking his beloved dog and constant companion, Phoebe. We will remember the irrepressible twinkle in those blue Irish eyes forever, with gratitude for having him in our lives.
A service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Avenue North, Naples, Florida (239-597-3101). A reception will follow at the Bay Colony Beach Club.
There will be a celebration of Paul’s life in late spring in Westport, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that you send a donation to The Salvation Army, 290 Bedford St., Fall River, MA, 02720.
