Matt had a fabulous worldview from growing up in Peru, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Mexico City, Iran, and Indonesia. He graduated from Jakarta International School and later, the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Matt moved to Naples, Florida in 1989 and later joined his father in his business, The Canvas Nursery.
Matt’s pride and joy was his family, whom he supported and loved unconditionally. He was a caring husband and a devoted father who always championed his wife’s and children’s lives and interests. Matt was a very present father who would do anything for his children, like coaching his son’s football league and sharing family recipes with his daughter. He added levity to every situation with his positive outlook and a good-hearted, well-timed joke. Matt never hesitated to lend a hand, offer guidance, or support others in any way he could.
Matt is predeceased by his father, Robert. He is survived by his wife Janet, his children Victoria and Jackson, his mother Susan, his sisters Sally Meyers and Liz Collins, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. We will all miss his smile, his sense of humor, and his love.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.
