She was born Jan. 4, 1956, daughter to William and Annette Canacci (both deceased). She is survived by her two older brothers, Bill and Ron Canacci, who she always enjoyed and admired.
She was an incredible wife to Antonio Rotondo Sr.; a wonderful mother to her two sons, Raffaele and Antonio Jr.; a loving mother-in-law to Kristy Rotondo and Lindsey Rotondo; and a fantastic grandmother to Ava Rotondo, 9; Liam Rotondo, 6; and Antonio Rotondo, 4.
Karen was a phenomenal aunt to all of her nieces and nephews as well.
In 1979, Antonio and Karen and 1-year-old son Raffaele moved from Youngstown to Naples, Florida, with Joseph Rotondo (brother-in-law).
After both of Karen's sons were teenagers, she pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse, and later in life received a bachelor's degree from Hodges University.
Karen always wished the best for her family, and instilled in them to do the best they could. She cared about her community and understood that good works and deeds would be appreciated -- and just might inspire others to do the same.)
She worked as a Charge Nurse at Downtown NCH (Naples Community Hospital) from the mid-1980s to the early '90s . She later would become a Director of Nursing at Chancellor Park (in Naples) and eventually at Harbor Chase. She also was Director of Admissions for two private duty agencies. At one point, she did admissions for Hospice Care, with the same company where she would take her last breath.
Later in her career, Karen would be a teacher for the licensed practical nurse programs at both Immokalee Technical College and Lorenzo Walker Technical College. She would always say teaching was the most fulfilling career ever.
She loved the beach, Italian food and shopping. She treasured time with her family and friends. Her warm, welcoming spirit and radiant smile will never be forgotten.
A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Ave. N., Naples, FL 34108
" Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings." (Wind Beneath My Wings lyrics - Bette Midler/ Beaches Soundtrack)
