Jonell “Jo” Carter, 79, a long time resident of Naples passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2023. Jo was born to Charles Ross and Agnes Hartley on February 3rd, 1944 in Slocomb, Alabama. The family moved to Naples in the early 1950’s and she graduated from Naples High School Class of 1962.
Jo is survived by her two daughters; Donna (Greg) Longmire and Brenda (Eric) Morris. She was a loving Granny to Joseph Marr, Samuel Marr, Sarah Morris and Benjamin Morris. She is also survived by several in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Skinner and Nancy Cummings as well as her loving husband Dewey Lee “Don” Carter.
Jo was in real estate in Naples for over 45 years and owned her own office, Jo Carter & Associates, the majority of that time. She was the Naples Area Board of Realtors Realtor of the year in 2002, inducted into the NABOR Hall of Fame in 2003, served as NABOR President in 2006 and was awarded Realtor Emeritus status in 2018. During her years serving NABOR she sat on and chaired numerous committees. She was well respected amongst her peers which she referred to as family.
She was a dedicated servant of Christ attending First Baptist Church Naples since she was a child, served on the school board for First Baptist Academy and taught children’s Bible study for over 52 years. Teaching children about Jesus was her life long passion. How glorious it must have been to be greeted in heaven with the words of our Heavenly Father “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Mathew 25:21
Services for Jo will be held on Saturday December 16th, 2023 at First Baptist Church Naples, located at 3000 Orange Blossom Drive, with Dr. Hayes Wicker officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM with the service starting at 11:00 AM.
