John P. Sullivan II, of Bonita Springs, Florida passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 88 due to complications of Parkinson’s with family by his side. John or “Jack”, as he was known, was born in Portland, Maine on September 12, 1935.
He graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine, and went on to Saint Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada. He worked for Shell Oil and Koch Fuels until his retirement, at which time he moved to Florida.
He had a passion for all sports and a deep love for the game of Golf which brought him to Florida. He was a member of Purpoodock Golf Club in Cape Elizabeth, Maine for many years and a member of Spring Run Golf Club in Bonita Springs, Florida where he called home.
Along with playing golf he enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises with Barbara to tropical destinations. He loved spending time with his family and all his friends. He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for his kind heart and generous spirit.
Jack is survived by his partner, Barbara Canaletich; his children, John (Marylynne), Debbie Peterson (Wayne), Steven (Barbara), Donna Thorpe, Daniel (Joanne), Christopher (Joanna), Karen Hannigan (Robert), and MaryCatherine Straw (Doug), sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Barbara’s children, Anthony Canaletich (Jennifer), Sonja DelBene (Jerry) and their children. He is also survived by his sisters, Eleanor Mitchell, and Joanne (Walter) Bodman. He is predeceased by his son Brian, his parents Theresa and John Patrick Sullivan, son-in-law Michael Thorpe, sister Grace Curran and husband Steve Curran, and brother-in-law Clarence Mitchell.
A Catholic Mass will be held Saturday February 10th at 10:00 AM at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Ave N, Naples, FL.
