Joel McCoy Cox, Sr., 84, of Naples, FL, went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2023 after an extended illness. He was a Godly man and a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
He is predeceased by his father, Malvin (Chick) Cox and his mother, Mabel Cox.
He was the beloved husband of Joan Cole Cox for 63 years, beloved father to son, Joel Cox, Jr. and his wife, Colleen, and daughter, Jennifer Cox all of Naples, FL. Grandchildren, Jordan Cox and his wife, Rachel, of Ft. Myers, FL, Nathan Cox and his wife, Lauren, of Naples, FL, and Stephanie Maskolunas and her husband, Ethan, of Auburndale, FL. Great grandchildren, Ana Rae Cox, Beau Cox, McCoy Maskolunas and Boone Maskolunas who will bless our family in June. He is also survived by his brother, James Cox and his wife, Janet, of Griffin, GA and his sister, Carol Almand of Newnan, GA along with many nieces and nephews.
Joel was born and raised in Newnan, GA. He attended Western High School and Georgia Tech and became a well respected bank officer for over 40 years. He moved to Florida with his family in 1978 and continued his banking career until 1985 when he joined Joan at her State Farm Agency on Marco Island until they retired in 2002. During this time he was a founding member of three banks on Marco Island and Sarasota. Joel and Joan traveled extensively and he loved spending time with the family.
He and his wife were members of First Baptist Church Newnan, GA for 16 years, First Baptist Church Naples for 26 years and Marco Island Baptist Church for 19 years. Joel loved our Lord and served in many capacities including Chairman of Deacons in all churches he attended. He volunteered for Good News Club, Operation Soldier Care, Encourager, First Baptist Church Naples Pastoral Care, Band of Brothers table leader, and Youth Leadership Collier. He was president of the Newnan, GA Chamber of Commerce and was in the Army National Guard, Lions Club, and Kiwanis Club.
We are most appreciative for the prayers of so many caring friends, relatives, and church family. We are exceedingly grateful to Avow Hospice and the caregivers who watched over him during his illness. A special thank you to Dr. Douglas Paone and Dr. Mary Lee Heim.
His life was well lived and he will be missed deeply by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother, sister and extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens Friday, May 5th at 3:00.
