Giorgio --- I was just a youth when I started to watch Cosmos games in New York.  It was so exciting to watch you run up and down the field scoring so many goals.  I always remember that you were always happy when one of your teammates scored a goal as well.  It wasn't all about you.  It was about the NY Cosmos.

Your talent, spirit and smile will always stay with me.

At Lady Mary School, in the early sixties Giorgio was a good , friend, mentor and someone whom I looked up to. 
I admired most, his confidence, coming from an immigrant background like me, in what was then a hostile educational setting. 
My sense of self improved, as a result of his influence and I went on to lead a successful working life.
Although we never retained contact subsequently, I always remembered you.
Thank you Georgio , you left us far too soon.

Giorgio it is with a very heavy heart that I leave this message, I was a Cosmos season ticket holder, I witnessed every single spectacular goal that you ever scored at Giants stadium.  Including the 7 goal playoff game, where your team mate Van der Elst stated you were the greatest goal scorer  had ever seen AND YOU WERE.  In addition I am a Laziale to the core.  Today at the Olimpico, Lazio won one for YOU.  A huge sign at the curva Nord said QUEL DITO VERSO LA SUD RIMARRA" PER L'ETERNITA.  And it will.

I well remember Giorgio at St Peteres School in Cardiff, Wales, when he was 10yrs of age. He played rugby for the school, before he went to Lady Mary School, also in Cardiff

As a kid growing up on Staten Island, watching you at Giants Stadium, the Cosmos were everything. You of course, were the talisman. I attended your soccer camp in 1980. You were an icon then and remained so ever since. I always wanted to call the show and talk to you, but now I won't have the chance. Rest in Peace. Enjoy the matches in heaven!

I met Giorgio in Rome in 1972 when he played for Lazio. We shared moments of life for many years. He was loved and admired all over the world. I will never forget him. When I was a litle boy my dad used to take us to the NY Cosmos games and loved to watch Giogio. My mom took us a soccer clinic and we arrived late. My bother was about five or six and we just missed Giorgio signing autographs. My brother started to cry and Giorgio got in his limo. Seconds later as we were walking away we heard someone yell from the limo. It was Giorgio and he called my brother into the limo and talked to him for a few minutes and gave him an autographed picture. My bother never forgot that day and now years is a nationally recognized womens collegian soccer coach.

Caro grande,dolce fratello mio. Mi hai lasciato dicendo queste meravigliose parole. "I LOVE YOU" and "I LOVE YOU TOO" ora sei con la Mamma e il Babbo. Un bacio...

This is a time of tremendous sadness for so many different people, he was admired and loved for his great play on the field, sadly players do not play like this anymore, as he always said "give me the ball and the ball will be in the back of the net".  He was a gentleman off the field and always had time for his fans, I wish the athletes of today would understand what Giorgio did.  He was a fabulous host on the radio who in this time of political correctness was never afraid to speak his mind, "when you're right you're right".  RIP Giorgio, the world will be a smaller and sadder place without you.

Gorgio, thank you for all the wonderful moments of passion and inspiration.
I am grateful for the time I was able to spend with you, I am grateful for the excitement and talent you brought to the game that influenced a bunch of kids in New Jersey.

You will always be remembered as one of the greatest goal scorers in modern soccer.The Cosmos would never have accomplished what they did without you. Not many fans  remember but you scored the winning goal in all the championship games, 1977, 78, 80 and 82.

To the family of Giorgio Chinglia I would like to express my deepest condolences to you during this very difficult time. 
Like many others, I came to know him only thorugh the radio. I spoke to him once but never had the honor of actually meeitng him. I began each day by listening to his commentary on the radio. Monday mornings were not so bad because i knew that I would hear Giorgio on the Football Show and hear him talk about the games that had occured over the weekend.
As an Italian American I am proud of his life and his accomplishments. The soccer world won't be the same without you Girgio.

Mi ricordo ancora quando eri commentatore sportivo accanto a Raimondo Vianello....sempre la battuta pronta. Poi ti ho conosciuto a Naples e ho capito subito di quanto fossi una brava e simpatica persona....mi ricordo che quando ti ho chiesto una tua maglia, tu mi hai guardato come dire: "ma che te ne fai della mia maglis...", invece caro Giorgio ne sarei stato onorato di averla....sono sicuro che la prima cosa che hai fatto lassú é stato chiedere se si poteva giocare a pallone...riposa in pace Giorgio.
