Emma Michelle (Munoz) Lawrence, 49, of Estero, Florida, loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin and cherished first daughter of Walter and Mary Grace Munoz of Fort Myers, FL, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday November 26, 2022. She was surrounded in recent days by her parents, and husband of 15 years, Michael Lawrence, Sister and Brother-in-Law, Amy and Jason Flomberg (Alpharetta, GA) Brother and Sister in-law, Andrew and Mari Munoz (Estero, FL) and her adoring nieces and nephews, Lauren, Grace, Ethan, Alex and Anderson at her side as she left to join our Lord, the Angels and her loving Grandparents.
Emma was a strong, spiritual person whose love of her Family and Friends drove her to continue fighting. She was born on January 25, 1973, to Walter and Mary Grace Munoz in Pittsburgh, PA. After Emma graduated from Canon McMillan High in Canonsburg, PA (1991) she earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Grove City College in Grove City, PA where she loved her Gamma Chi sorority sisters and frequently vacationed together.
Emma was talented in many ways as a young dancer, runner, skier and golfer. In recent years, she taught herself piano and often played for her family and friends. Emma’s love of running had her complete one of the country’s most difficult marathons, The Big Sur in Carmel, CA. Her love of golfing also led to a dramatic hole-in-one at Kiawah’s Ocean Golf Course in Charleston, SC.
After graduating from Grove City College, she began her career in Business Consulting at Price Waterhouse where she excelled. Emma met her Husband at IBM and they began their lives together. Emma and Michael were married in Plymouth, Massachusetts where they built a home and golfed regularly with friends at Pinehills Golf Club close to Michael’s parents Ronald and Nancy Lawrence of Taunton MA, and Sister and Brother in-law Mary and Peter MacDougall (Taunton, MA), niece and nephew Bridget and Colin MacDougall who she simply adored.
Emma’s love of her family inevitably brought her to Florida where they moved closer to her Parents, Brother’s and Sister’s family. Emma excelled in many areas of her life including the business world where she joined SAP and became Vice President of Utilities Industry mid-west region. Her coworkers were as close as family and she worked and played hard with them during her 25-year career while traveling with her husband around the country golfing and skiing. They also loved visiting Ireland, London and Paris among other locations. Her love of reading drove her to see and experience everything life has to offer even if she couldn’t travel there.
Emma eventually found her Home at the wonderful Shadow Wood Country Club in Estero, FL where she loved updating and decorating her ‘nest’ on Orchid Ridge Lane. Emma and Michael were immediately drawn to more friends, spent more time with family and knew this would be home forever.
Emma will be honored at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples, FL Memorial Gardens on Sunday December 18 at 1pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location. Those who are unable to attend in person may still do so remotely via the following link: https://youtu.be/lYwSUDFXjmM
