He was born September 5, 1938, in Dayton, OH and graduated from Oakwood High School. He received a BS degree in 1961 and an MBA in 1963 from the University of Cincinnati where he was a proud member and officer of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
He spent thirty years in magazine advertising sales and sales management. He was with several McGraw-Hill trade publications in Philadelphia and New York before joining Business Week in New York. After a stint as Western Advertising Director with Business Week in Chicago, he and his wife, Lynne, started a publishers’ representative firm which she continued to operate after he joined Forbes Magazine in Chicago. His volunteer work included Off the Street Club. He was a member of The Racquet Club, The Tavern Club and University Club of Chicago.
After ten years at Forbes, he retired as their Midwest Advertising Manager and moved to Naples, FL where he could spend time boating, playing tennis, traveling extensively, and reading. He sold real estate for five years for Executive Properties of Naples. He was a board member and Commodore of the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club and member of the Boothbay Harbor (ME) Yacht Club, during nine summers in Maine. He served Pelican Bay as a board member of its Services Division and belonged to the Forum Club of Southwest Florida. He was a member and past president of the original Naples Beta Theta Pi Alumni Association, which dissolved. Four years later, he was asked to reorganize the association, for which he was president for several years. He was a volunteer with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, the Naples Community Sailing Center and served on his condominium board of directors for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Lynne (Clark), sons Scott (Kathie) and Skip (Sarah), daughter, Jill Benson (Brian), grandchildren Galen and Grace Nordhoff and Lucas Simerman, and the mother of his children, Marty Gallagher.
