Carlos was born on March 13, 1940, in Havana, Cuba, to Guadalupe Cossio and Jose Adolfo Macau. Carlos was a loving father, grandfather and devoted husband. He was married to Caroline Schott on October 6, 1965. Carlos and Caroline were blessed with three children and seven grandchildren.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Caroline, and his children Carlos Macau Jr. (Rhonda) of Miami, Florida, Diana Lynch (Greg) of Granger, Indiana, and Joseph Macau (Jillian) of Lake Mary, Florida. Carlos was the proud grandfather to Kyle and Cole Macau, Kristina, Ryan and Brandon Lynch and Reese and Joseph Macau. Carlos is also survived by his sisters Jacqueline (Jackie) Johns and Michelle Macau and a step-brother Waldemar (Wally) Clark, Jr. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe (Lupe) Clark and Jose Adolfo Macau, a brother Jose Adolfo Macau Cossio, a sister Rosaura (Roxie) Macau-Milian and step-father Waldemar H. Clark.
Carlos spent his childhood in Havana and Matanzas, Cuba, graduating high school from the Havana Military Academy. He was an exceptional athlete in a variety of sports which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. After a childhood in Cuba, Carlos came to the United States. He played soccer while attending The Catholic University of America and then transferred to Georgia Tech where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering. Carlos worked in the manufacturing housing industry for many years and was a business owner. He enjoyed boating, traveling and spending time with family. Carlos’ fondest memories include the time spent with family and friends in Cuba, boating adventures on Lake Erie, Lake Michigan and along the Florida Gulf Coast, as well as spending holidays with his family and grandchildren.
Carlos could light up a room with his charm and wit, always ready to share a story or share a tasteful joke. He was an encyclopedia of information, always punctual and never sat still. He would wake-up in the morning and tell everyone “let’s get going, we have mountains to climb today”. He enjoyed exploring new places and going for long drives with his wife. Throughout the years, Carlos and Caroline split time between Northern Indiana/Southern Michigan and South West Florida. In retirement, Carlos and Caroline made their home on Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens on Saturday, May 22, 2021, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm. A Catholic memorial service will take place at 2:00 pm followed by lunch.
