It is with deep sadness that the family announces that Mel McCormick passed away peacefully in Nanaimo B.C., on January 8th, 2024, at the age of eighty.
Mel is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Cis, and his loving children Sean and Lise, Tara and Mike and pre-deceased by his son Gordie at age 15. He was a proud, loving grandfather to Linny, Gord and Tess. He is also survived by his only brother Terry (pre-deceased by Louise), his Aunt Enid (pre-deceased by Uncle Jack), in-laws Pat and Ray, Jacquie, Roger and Toby, and Lil (pre-deceased). Mel will also be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews and many friends. Mel is pre-deceased by his parents Dorothy and Gordon McCormick.
Mel was born on September 12, 1943 in Timmins, Ontario to his wonderful parents Gordon and Dorothy McCormick while “Big Gord” was serving in WW2 with the Canadian Navy. Four years later came little brother Terry.
He met the love of his life Cecile (Cis) Guindon in 1966 in Timmins and they were married the following summer. They went on to create a beautiful life together raising their family, working hard, and creating special memories, many of them at their cottage on Hoodoo Bay. Mel enjoyed a great life in Northern Ontario, hunting, fishing and playing sports with his family and many of his life-long buddies.
Mel enjoyed his long career as a stockbroker in Timmins and often claimed he may be the longest serving broker in Canada with 52 years in the business. He loved watching the markets, meeting with clients, many of them friends, and working with great colleagues over the years.
Mel and Cis enjoyed travelling and did a lot of wandering in their wonderful life together. In particular, they held a special place in their hearts for the Fabulous Florida Keys. In retirement, Mel and Cis moved to Nanaimo to be closer to family. They enjoyed their new life on the West Coast, spending time with their loved ones, exploring the island, gardening, cooking, golfing, sampling new restaurants/pubs, and meeting new friends.
The family would like to express special thanks to Doctor Pienaar for her great care and kindness. At Mel’s request there will be no visitation or service.
Mel will always be remembered for his love of family, his love of nature, his quick wit, and his love of life.
