Gwenneth Mary Patterson passed away on November 6 2020 at the age of 95 years. She was the cherished wife of Sheridan (Pat) Patterson for 65 years. She is predeceased by her mother Ann Maria Calcutt (1925), her father Charles David Towriss (1959) and her step-brother Jack Sutton Stokes (1997). Gwen is survived by her husband Pat, her sister Kathleen Annie Burns (nee Towriss) and two sons Mike (Chris) and Kevin (Rhonda) and three grandchildren Samantha (Mike), Mike and Jack.
Gwen grew up on a farm just outside of Moosejaw during the depression. Although times were tough she had many fond memories of living on the farm. Gwen and her sister would take a horse and buggy to a one room school house on the prairies and the two girls would get into mischief together. After school she worked for the federal government as a clerk in Calgary where she met and fell in love with Pat who had just returned from the Korean War. They were married in September 1955 in Calgary Alberta. Over Pat’s 31 year military career, Gwen packed, moved and unpacked households 19 times living all across Canada and in Germany. Gwen was a dedicated and loyal wife who often found herself raising her two boys alone while Pat was deployed to places across the country and around the world on training and operations.
Gwen was an avid runner, quilter and enjoyed sewing. She was the first woman to join the 500 Mile Club in Lahr Germany having run more than 500 miles in one calendar year, logging those miles throughout the hills and vineyards around Lahr. Gwen was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, friend and sister who loved to travel, sing, and enjoyed a glass of fine white wine from time to time. She had a great smile that warmed your heart an awesome sense of humor and loved to laugh. Gwen was an amazing and remarkable woman. We will miss her deeply.
A service is to be held at First Memorial Funeral Services on Friday November 13th and she will be laid to rest at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the service will be a small by invitation only. From the time when she was a little girl Gwen loved cats so in lieu of flowers a donation to the SPCA would be greatly appreciated.
