Duane passed away peacefully in in his sleep at NRG hospital on May 30, 2021. He was taken suddenly and unexpectedly. He leaves behind his wife Gail of 50 years, son Tony (Sarah), son Brad (Megan), 7 grandchildren – Makayla, Joelle, Lexie, Kyran, Liberty, Deziray and Xander. Sister Wendy (David), sister Nona (Sandy), and many other extended family and friends. Duane was pre-deceased by his father George Price and mother Eileen (Smith).
Duane was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan attending Thornton Elementary, Albert Elementary and Nutana Collegiate. In his second year attending the University of Saskatchewan, he met the love of his live, Gail. They spent the early years of their marriage and family life in Saskatoon, where Duane worked as a Building Inspector for over 18 years. Duane’s weekends were spent enjoying the family cabin at Jack Fish Lake and using his knowledge and skills to build cottages in norther SK.
In 1992, Duane moved his family to Nanaimo, BC when he was hired by the city as a Building Inspector/Plan Checker. They enjoyed their time camping and touring “their” new island. They found a new extended family at the Hammond Bay Baptist Church where Duane enjoyed many close friendships. Upon retiring, Duane continued to use this building knowledge to create design plans for both residential and commercial buildings.
Duane’s positive attitude and loving nature touched many lives. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday July 10th, 2021 at 2pm at Hammond Bay Baptist Church. A link for the live stream of the service will be available on YouTube at Hammondbaychurch.org for those unable to attend.
Duane’s family would like to thank the staff at NRGH for their kind and compassionate care; and to the family, friends and church community for their amazing support.
Memorial donations in memory of Duane can be made to a charity of your choice or to the Parkinson’s Society BC.
