Mr. Taylor died April 13, 2010, at his residence.
He was born to Roy Albert and Mattie Taylor May 21, 1924 in Forney, Texas. Mr. Taylor was a member of First United Methodist Church and a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. He was a retired Major in the United States Marine Corps and served his country as a decorated pilot during World War II and the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Joyce Adair Brookshire of Nacogdoches, on a Greyhound Bus during his military service, and they were married in 1946.
Mr. Taylor was active locally in numerous business ventures, including poultry production, real estate development and oil and gas production.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Taylor of Nacogdoches; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Teresa Taylor of Conroe; son and daughter-in-law, John and Peggy Taylor of Nacogdoches; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Carla Taylor of Nacogdoches; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Melinda Taylor of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Terry Alexander of Bullard; fifteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary Willis, Ed Morgan, Joe Max Green, Chris Hancock, Clyde Sheffield, and J.D. Norvell.
Interment will be with full military honors at Sunset Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas.
