Mr. Rhodes was born January 3, 1922 in College Park Georgia to Reverend Joel Carl and Pauline Stovall Rhodes. He was retired from the Exxon Mobil Corporation. Mr. Rhodes held a BS Degree from Lambuth University in Tennessee, and an MBA Degree in Finance from the University of Chicago. Mr. Rhodes was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a charter member of Kiwanis Seniors and SeniorNet.
Mr. Rhodes served four years in World War II. As a 1st Lieutenant and navigator in the US Army Air Corp, he flew 196 combat hours on B-24 Bombers in the South Pacific, thereby earning three oak leaf clusters for his Air Medal. Other medals included the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal.
Mr. Rhodes married Jeannie Lou Hamilton on February 7, 1947. He is preceded in death by his wife, grandson, Michael David Rhodes, and brothers J.C. and Tom Rhodes. Surviving are his son Randolph Hamilton Rhodes, and wife Susan, of League City, Texas; two daughters, Nancy Rhodes Henderson and husband James, and Anne Rhodes Bondesen and husband Norman, both of Nacogdoches; a sister, Sarah Rhodes Bagby of Lexington, Kentucky; six grand-children; three great-grandchildren; five nieces and ten nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Rhodes will be held on Friday, July 18, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Cason Monk Metcalf. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 19, at 2:15 pm at Sunset Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Don Gregory will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nacogdoches Treatment Center, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Association.
