Born July 24, 1944, in Chireno, Texas, to parents Roy Gregston and Allie Bryant Gregston, Mrs. Whitehead had been a longtime resident of the Etoile area and graduated from Woden High School. She retired from Lufkin State School after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Whitehead loved God, her family, grandchildren, Christmas, and her four-legged companion, Daisy. She and her family were well-known for the outstanding Christmas decorations spanning two-acres at their home each year.
Her survivors include her husband of 50 years, Gaylon Ottis “Ben” Whitehead; daughter, Gayline Whitehead; sister, Betty M. Redfearn and husband Dale; brother, Ferriel Gregston and wife Marsha; and grandchildren, Hunter Whitehead, Codie Whitehead, and Jodie Whitehead, and their mother, Carrie Pace.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Benton Whitehead, in 2008.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Etoile United Pentecostal Church, located at 168 Hwy. 103 in Etoile, with Pastor Glenn D. Morton officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery, located on FM 226 South in Etoile.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Pallbearers: Ted Schooley, Ray Bryant, Larry Bryant, Bart Coleson, Dolen Hill, and John Morton.
