Marilyn Ann Wright, age 81, of Garrison, Texas passed away at home on Sunday, September 8, 2024. She was born in Houston, Texas on February 21, 1943, the fourth child to Sarah Elizabeth (Bettie) and Fred A. Ross.
Marilyn graduated from Sam Houston Senior High School in 1961. She married William R. Carpenter in 1962 and together they had four children.
Marilyn lived in Houston most of her life and her working career included positions at Foley’s Department Store, Southwestern Bell, Harris County Municipal Courts, United States Marshalls office, and Defense Investigative Services.
She was an accomplished seamstress and artist and enjoyed sharing her talents with her friends and family. Marilyn enjoyed dancing, recreational softball, and roller skating; she even competed on a roller derby team.
In 1980 Marilyn met “the love of her life, Mr. Don G. Wright of Garrison, Texas. They married in October 1983 and Marilyn moved to Garrison where they enjoyed thirty-five years together.
Marilyn worked for Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Dietary department for thirty-two years and retired in 2018. Marilyn was well known at the hospital, for her creativity where she decorated the dining area for holidays and special events. Marilyn worshipped at Appleby Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children Kay Hastings, her husband Ronnie, their children Jenifer and Zachary, Son, Larry Carpenter and his children William and Cheyenne, Son Jim Carpenter, his wife Cindy and their daughter Caitlin, Son Tim Carpenter, and his wife Jeanette their son, Samuel Rei, and great-grandchildren Lorelei and Matilda.
Marilyn is also survived by sister, Sandra Krismer; two nephews and five nieces, as well as many cousins and friends. Marilyn lived life on her terms and anyone who knew her had heard the phrases “it is what it is” and “life’s a bitch and then you die!” Marilyn has spent the last six years desperately missing her true love, we celebrate knowing they have been reunited!
A visitation for Marilyn will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75965, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Marilyn will be laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery, Appleby, TX.
