A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches. Pastor Randy Booth will officiate all of the burial services. Burial will be in the Springtown Cemetery on Sunday, January 3, at 4:30 p.m.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, January 1, 5:00– 7:00 p.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches to reflect on and remember his life.
Jim, son of Madeline and Frank Byers was born and raised in Springtown, Texas. Jim was valedictorian and homecoming king of his Springtown High School graduating class in 1953.
Jim loved learning and obtained both undergraduate and Masters Degrees from the University of Texas, at Austin in mechanical engineering. He also held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Christian University.
Jim then went to work at the University of Texas in the Applied Research Laboratories where his career spanned 37 years. He applied for and received over 21 patents on behalf of the United States government.
He served his country through the department of defense as a sonar research engineer to support American naval bases around the world.
Jim was an accomplished farmer, world traveler, loving father, husband and gracious friend. He was above all a faithful laborer in the vineyard of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna Jean Kirk to whom he was married to for 26 years; his brother, Billy Wayne Byers; and his parents, Madeline and Frank Byers.
He is remembered with love by his devoted wife of 19 years, Temple Streit Byers; children, Kelly Byers and wife Margie Byers, J. Frank and wife Paula Byers, John Moore and wife Kitty Moore, Carrie Moore, Charlotte Zuniga and husband Antonio Zuniga; and grandchildren, Cody Byers, Kristin Byers, Kirk Byers, Madeline Byers, Grace Byers, Trevor Moore, David Moore, Alex Zuniga, and Adi Zuniga.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Byers, J. Frank Byers, Cody Byers, Kirk Byers, Antonio Zuniga, John Moore, Kristin Byers, Madeline Byers.
