Jesse Matthew Harris, age 87, of Lufkin, Texas passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. Jesse was born July 30, 1934 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Matthew and Elaine Pou Harris. He was the oldest their eight children.
Jesse was called to be a minister in the Methodist Church. He spent over forty years serving congregations in many towns in the Texas Conference. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and photography.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Brittany Harris.
He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 61 years; sons David (Irene), Mark (Pam), and Karl; Grandchildren, Elaine (Zack) and Mark Jr. “MJ”; and Great granddaughter Evelyn; brothers, James (Jeanette), Charles (Linda), Mitchell (Gail), and Richard (Jennifer): sisters, Sarah, Polly, and Betty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Jesse will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 201 E Hospital St, Nacogdoches, Texas, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.
Jesse will be laid to rest in Connor Cemetery, Beckville, TX.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jesse's memory may be made to First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches, 201 E. Hospital St, Nacogdoches, Texas.
