James was born October 1, 1952, in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Marshall Wynne, Jr. and Evelyn Bedingfield Wynne, by his sister and brother-in-law, Lois Wynne and Leonard Langston Boatman, and also by brother-in-law Raymond Marvin Card.
James was an avid sportsman and loved the great outdoors. While he excelled at fishing and hunting, he was particularly crazy about deer season – still! He trained several hunting dogs and always had the best dogs as loyal companions. With these outdoor hobbies and an early interest in FFA, it’s not surprising that James left his hometown of Houston and took up residence at the family farm in Mount Enterprise.
James had a thirst for knowledge and was particularly interested in history, genealogy, and the Confederacy. He had a knack for utilizing resources, especially those human resources at the Mount Enterprise Branch of the Rusk County Library. Thank you to the librarians and other workers who helped James with his research projects over the years. Each act of assistance was an act of kindness.
James had a lifelong love of music and was skilled at playing the guitar and banjo. In recent years he honed his musical talents by composing numerous songs and playing and singing in various venues. James was a proud member of and Chaplain for Stone Fort Camp No. 1944, Sons of Confederate Veterans, in Nacogdoches, Texas. James loved having a good time with friends and family and we will treasure the memories of times spent with him. Most importantly, James was a believer and loved the Lord.
James is survived by sister Marye Elizabeth Wynne Humphries and her husband Robert L. Humphries of Mount Enterprise, Texas, and by sister Margaret Kathleen Wynne Card, of Mount Enterprise, Texas.
In addition, James is survived by eight nieces and nephews: David Haines of Nacogdoches, Texas, Lisa Boatman Bowen of Boulder, Colorado, Leonard Boatman, Jr. and his partner Samantha Eubanks of Kerrville, Texas, Richard Haines of Houston, Texas, Terry Haines and his wife Natalie of Houston, Texas, Dawn Greenberg and her husband Brian of Montgomery, Texas, Leslie Ash and her husband Jeff of Mount Enterprise, Texas, and Laurie Jopling and her husband Paul of Garrison, Texas, and by many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, and his church family.
Visitation will be held at Cason Monk-Metcalf on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 6-8 pm.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Mount Enterprise, Texas at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Isabell Chapel Cemetery.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-4, NKJV)
