Funeral services for Mr. Felix Muckleroy, 89, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with the Rev. Michael Parks and the Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Felix was born May 15, 1924, to O.B. and Mittie Carnes Muckleroy. He passed away peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He graduated from Nacogdoches High School and was a World War II veteran and served with the 7th Infantry Division on the island of Okinawa. He received two Purple Hearts and several medals of recognition and was discharged as a sergeant.
After returning home, Felix was employed by Nibco Inc. of Nacogdoches and gave 43 years of dedicated service.
Felix was married to Ruth Beatrice Morgan on November 3, 1946.
Felix was an ordained deacon in the Congregational Methodist Church. He served as a deacon, trustee, steward, and building committee member for New Hope and Nacogdoches Congregational Methodist Churches. At present he was a charter member of Faithbridge Church in Douglass, Texas. He has served as a trustee since its origin. Felix and Ruth were instrumental in hosting missionaries in their home. Felix made several mission trips to help construct new churches in Honduras, Mexico, and on the border at Eagle Pass, Texas.
Felix was a member of Gideons International Nacogdoches Camp. He spoke in churches and helped distribute Bibles in elementary schools, universities, etc.
He was a member of East Texas Antique Car Club. He enjoyed restoration of old vehicles and participation in parades and car shows.
Felix accomplished many things throughout his life, he will be remembered first and foremost as a loving husband and wonderful father.
He openly gave freely of his time, knowledge, experience, patience, and understanding to anyone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Louise Marie Broseh and Frankie Nichols.
Felix is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Beatrice Morgan Muckleroy; sons, Gary Muckleroy and wife Gayle and Ronnie Muckleroy and wife Lyric; and a daughter, Jan Dawley and husband Robin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sandra and Brandon Wood, Jakey and Damon Sampson, Jolie and Monty Melton, Erica and Geoff Logan, Gigi and Eric Burbidge, Kent Birdwell, and Kelly Griffey; and eight great-grandchildren, Dylan and Slayton Sampson, Kaylie, Cory, and Andy Melton, Ariel Logan, Sophia and Jackson Burbidge, Allyssa and Kirsten Griffey, and Marissa Birdwell.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
Pallbearers will be Damon Sampson, Monty Melton, Brandon Wood, Geoff Logan, Eric Burbidge, and Kent Birdwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Morgan, Wilburn Easley, and members of the Gideons International Nacogdoches Camp.
