Elizabeth Page Kline

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection for Mrs. Kline will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 903 North Street, Nacogdoches on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Newton and Rev. Jennifer Marshall officiating. A reception will follow in Westminster Fellowship Hall. A private interment will precede the service in Sunset Memorial Park.

Betty graduated in 1938 from Holland Hall School for Girls in Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended the University of Kansas and the University of Tulsa where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. During World War II she left college to join the American Red Cross and was trained to go overseas; however, when she arrived at headquarters in St. Louis, the age to go overseas had been changed to 25, so she worked at both Fort Sill in Oklahoma and Camp Hood in Texas during the war.

She and Robert Richard Kline were married December 28, 1946 in the Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa. At that time, Mr. Kline was production manager of NIBCO in Elkhart, Indiana and they lived there until 1948 when they moved to Nacogdoches, Texas where Mr. Kline became the manager of NIBCO. In 1968 they returned to Elkhart where Mr. Kline became executive vice-president of the company until 1974 when Mr. Kline retired and the family returned again to Nacogdoches.

Mrs. Kline was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher as well as being involved in many other church activities. She had a deep pride and commitment to Nacogdoches and dedicated much of her time to civic activities. She was a long-time member of the Heritage Club and helped edit the Nacogdoches Federation of Women’s Clubs cookbook titled, “Recipes Old and New Tried and True”. She was a member of DAR, two bridge clubs, Garden Club, and volunteered at the Nacogdoches Youth Center and United Way. She was active in the Knife and Fork Club that later became SFASU Community Concert Series and served on the Dallas Opera Board in Dallas from 1958-1968. She was instrumental in founding the local Chi Omega chapter at SFASU and on April 5, 1995 she received recognition for Fifty Years of Loyalty and Devotion to the Fraternity. She was a past board member of Piney Woods Country Club, The Nacogdoches Treatment Center and the Samaritan Counseling Center that she and her husband helped established in Nacogdoches. She and Mr. Kline were also founders of the Nacogdoches Public Library. In 1956 she helped the public schools develop what is now known as Special Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her only brother, William Scott Page in 2007, her husband, Robert Richard Kline in 1982 and two sons, Gordon Robert Kline in 1955 and Richard Page Kline in 1983.

She is survived by her son, Christopher Scott Kline and wife Terry of Nacogdoches; granddaughter Ellen Kline Mabry and husband Nelson of Houston; daughter-in-law Jane Kline of Austin; nephews William Scott Page and wife Ann and Ronald Everett Page of Tulsa, and Stephen Frederick Page and wife Linda of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a great-grandson, William Christopher Mabry and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Grace Mabry of Houston and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty will be remembered for her optimism and zest for life. Outside of family, she loved the arts and her home. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a world of life-long friends in every place in which she lived and left a footprint of love on every step she took.
