She was born November 3, 1922, in Center Point, Louisiana as one of eight children to Andy and Sarah Graham. She married her husband, Mr. Tommy W. Mills, Sr., on September 7, 1940, after meeting at a local logging company where they both worked.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy W. Mills, Sr.; brothers, Dudley Graham and Arthur Graham; sisters, Annie Lou Johnson and Ester “Beck” Caliva.
Mrs. Mills is survived by her sons, Willie Mills and wife Lynn, Tommy Mills and wife Leslie; daughter, Linda Bass; granddaughters, Katrina Saegert and husband Jeremy, Tiffany Lyon and husband John, Stephanie Molsbee and husband Mike, Kelly Hawk and husband Joel; grandsons, Stephen Mills and Graham Mills; great grandsons, Zachary Mills-Smith, Joseph Boney, Christopher Mills, Colton Hawk, Trenton Hawk, and Lane Molsbee; great granddaughters, Kathryn Maury, Amanda Sorrells, Madison Mills, Abby Saegert, and Hanna Saegert; great-great grandsons, Ethan Mitchell Maury and Riley Merritt; great-great granddaughter, Lillian Grace Maury; sisters, Lottie Jinkins, Lucy Stott, and Ruth Box; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Mills was a strong, resilient woman who loved to help those around her. She was extremely dedicated to doing what she loved for many years. Edith enjoyed working thirty years in the drapery and jewelry departments of Sears in Pasadena, Texas. After moving back to Nacogdoches in 1980 she continued working at Mize Department Store. Over the next twenty-seven years, Edith volunteered over 10,900 hours as a Pink Lady, helping those in need at Nacogdoches Medical Center. She was proud to be a founding member of a local chapter of the Red Hat Club.
At one time an avid seamstress, Edith loved to sew when she was able. She sewed dresses and helped to make the drapery for several local churches and banks. She also took great pride in her home, always keeping it spotless and neat. There is no doubt that Mrs. Mills will be truly missed by those that knew her.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2016, at Cason Monk-Metcalf’s Sunset Chapel with Dr. Allen Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches, Texas.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2016, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
In lieu of flowers, the Mills family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
