Doris “Tena” Mixon Delafield of Mt. Enterprise, Texas passed away in Nacogdoches on November 3rd, 2024. She was born December 7, 1936 in Cushing, Texas to parents Archie and Goldie Byrd Mixon. Upon graduation from Cushing High school she attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Education. On June 22, 1957 she married the love of her life Joe Bryan Delafield. Together they taught future generations at various school districts, spending most of their careers at West Rusk CCISD. Being a teacher was not only her career, but a passion she had. She never missed an opportunity to teach one of her grandchildren something. Tena loved to travel taking her two sons to Europe while working on her Master Degree at UT Tyler. Also, loading her grandkids on Chucks Travel buses to travel the country while on summer vacation. It was often hard to catch her at home. When not traveling you could find her working in her various flowerbeds, or out filling up her bird and squirrel feeders around the yard.
Tena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Bryan Delafield; Sisters, Marie Lucky, and Ruby Joyce “Tot” Wade; brother, Emory Keith “Bud” Mixon; and daughter in Law, Linda Delafield.
Those left in to cherish her memory include sons; Keith Delafield, and Kelly and Shem Delafield; sisters, Sylvia Schulamier, and Trish and Ted Martindale; grandchildren, Brian and Kassie Delafield, Aaron Delafield, Evan and Allyson Delafield, Kaitlyn and Chase Whiddon, and Kaci and Layne Cantrell; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday November 6th from 5-8pm at Cason Monk- Metcalf Funeral Home in Nacogdoches. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Thursday November 7th at Glenfawn cemetery in the Glenfawn community in Rusk County.
