Ruth Seelye was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born into this world on January 29, 1946, Ruth lived a fulfilled, selfless, and blessed life, and entered into the arms of her loving Jesus on February 9, 2022 at the age of 76.
After being born in Shanghai, China, she was adopted and grew up in California where she attended Monterey High School and enjoyed spending time with her friends. Roy Seelye stole her heart in 1970 and the couple were married on December 5 of that year, leading to a beautiful life together. They went on to have five daughters, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and countless cats. The love between Roy and Ruth was one for the ages, serving as a great example for how to love holy and unconditionally. Anyone who knew Ruth, knew that she was one of the most selfless people on this earth. She gave graciously to her family, to everyone in her community, and to every animal. Ruth, along with her loving husband Roy, founded Share a Little Warmth from the Heart in 2008. Together they dedicated endless hours and most of their house to sorting blankets, pajamas, and slippers for children in need in the community. After retiring from the non-profit in 2016, they totaled their generosity to have impacted more than 10,000 families. Ruth was committed to her Wesco popcorn runs, and any efforts to tend to her beloved animals. She made sure that popcorn, peanut butter cookies, and leftovers were all provided to the possums, skunks, and racoons, as well as the many stray cats, some of who eventually became her indoor babies. Aside from her charitable actions and her animals, Ruth’s grandchildren were her passion. She never missed a sporting event, a dance recital, or special event, and loved her trips to Florida to spend time with those living further away. She always made sure that her family knew how loved they were. From grandparent days to sleepovers, baking, game playing, and more, Ruth (Gramma, Grandma, Nana, and Mimi), made a permanent impact on each of her grandchildren’s lives. As a mother, Ruth had a special way of making each daughter feel important and valued. Ruth loved spending time in the kitchen to spoil those she loved – always creating unique soups, experimenting with different spices, making her grandkids’ favorite boiled hotdogs, brownies, and macaroni salad. Additionally, no matter how Ruth aged, she never lost her sense of fashion. She loved wearing jewelry and sparkles, and made sure her hair was styled nicely. TJ Maxx was her guilty pleasure for shopping, but dating reality TV shows were definitely her guilty pleasure at home. She was a devoted Christian with a deep love for Jesus Christ. She had a quiet sense of humor, loved spending time on and near the water, enjoyed time with her small group, and had the sweetest heart. She is immensely loved and will be dearly missed. Her family feels blessed to have such an incredible angel watching over them. Ruth Seelye was survived by her loving husband Roy Seelye, her 5 daughters Tina Hinton (Rob Hinton), Angela Sidock (Don Sidock), Jennifer MacLaren (Paul MacLaren), Lora Lopez (Daniel Lopez), Crystal Martinez and her 8 grandchildren Hayden Lopez, Kendahl MacLaren, Courtney Sidock, Nolan Lopez, Tristan MacLaren, Wyatt Sidock, Trevor Hinton, and Alexis Hinton, and her great-grandchild Ky’aire Sidock. She was preceded in death by her parents Rufus and Bertha Eaton, her birth mother Valentina Mitchell (Lawrence Mitchell), and her granddaughter Jessica Sidock.
