Robert Walter Scott

Robert W. Scott of Hemet, California, age 94, passed away surrounded by his daughters and peacefully on August 7, 2024. Robert was born December 24, 1929, in Park City, Utah, the son of Harold Scott and Lavinia Wiley (Street).

Because of the “Great Depression” of the 1930’s his family relocated to his father’s home in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. There he was educated, served a three year electrical apprenticeship, and was employed as a journeyman electrician in Port Mellon, B.C., Canada.

During his youth, Robert was very active in sports, and in 1946, won a Golden Gloves boxing championship. In 1949, he returned to the U.S., and on June 22, 1949, enlisted in the United States Navy and served more than 21 years in aviation units around the world, before being medically retired due to injuries sustained in the Vietnam war. He retired on March 31, 1971, in San Diego, California, with the rating of Aviation Master Chief Petty Officer. After his Naval career, Robert was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years retiring as Supervisor Maintenance on December 1, 1991.

On September 24, 1949, Robert married Marion Groner in Vancouver B.C., Canada and together they had two sons, Terry Norwood (Pam)) and Robert Norwood, and two daughters Linda Norwood and Bonny Norwood Sykes (Bill).

On July 24, 1959, Robert married Eloisa Ogo in Washington D.C. and together they had four daughters, Penny Scott, Jenny Bodem (Phil), Suzanne Pence (Keith) and Rebecca Hammagren (Allen).

Robert is also survived by his grandchildren, Richard Sykes, Rebecca Kofonow (Jason), Justin Ortiz, Joel Ortiz, Kristin Dignam (Paul), Chad Kennett (Brielle), Mckenna Kennett, Rylan Pence, River Pence, Collin Hammagren, Courtney Hammagren; and five great-children. He was preceded in death by sons Terry, Robert and daughter Linda.

At Robert’s request there will be a private military memorial service for immediate family members only.
