He is survived by Evelyn and his daughter Kimberly, as well as several siblings: Birdie, Hiwatha, Debro, Ann and Odessa. Marcus was the son of Walter and Elise Thompson, he was born in Atlantic City, NJ. Graduated High School and Vocational school and enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1977.
Marcus served his country for 20 years, he participated in several conflicts such as Desert Shield (the Liberation of Kuwait) in 1990, Desert Storm in 1991, and Operation Restore Hope in Somalia 1992. Marcus served on the USS Denver. He served on Marine Corps bases in Hawaii, Japan, Korea and several in the continental US. He worked as a recruiter in Bakersfield CA, helping young men to join the Marine Corps and serve the Country he loved.
By trade, Marcus was an Engineer Equipment Mechanic, he rose to rank of Staff Sergeant and earned 14 different awards, including the Joint Meritorious Unit Award Kuwait Liberation Medal.
Marcus retired after 20 years in the Marine Corps in southern California. He worked for John Roberts Company, as a machinist for several years. Marcus has lived at a retirement community in Murrieta CA for the last 10 years, he enjoys restoring his 1990 7-series BMW, reading, traveling, and participating in the community activities.
