Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Douglas (Doug) Williams Sr. of Murrieta, California unexpectedly passed away on June 24th, 2022 at the early age of 75. Those he leaves behind will dearly remember him for his great wisdom, whimsical humor, and enormous heart.
Doug is preceded in life by his mother Emily, and father Henry. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosemary and his two sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas Jr., Colleen, and Troy. He was enormously proud of his three grandchildren, Douglas III, Harrison, and Alexander, each of whom brought him great joy. Doug was the youngest of three brothers, Hank, Larry, and Karl, whom he leaves behind, and for whom he would irreverently say he’s merely just scouting the trail ahead.
For a quarter decade until the mid-2000s he was a highly respected technical engineer for Sony Corporation. His expertise helped shape the cutting edge of television technologies that have since become commonplace today. He was also an avid collector and enthusiast of trains large and small, a passion which earned him the nickname “grandpa choo-choo”. When not tending to his model train collection, he could often be found at the Poway-Midland Railroad as a volunteer helping with maintenance and operation of an antique steam locomotive, giving rides on it to children large and small.
Doug was also a veteran of the Vietnam era, having served two tours of duty with United States Navy on the USS Bausell (DD-845). He remained a proud patriot until his passing, as well as a Freemason.
He will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518, where a short ceremony will be held on August 9th, 2022 at 11:15am. A private reception for friends and family will follow thereafter, location and time TBD.
