Wayne Allen Michael

On the morning of July 19, 2023, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Wayne Allen “Mike” Michael, made his transition at the age of 82. Wayne was born to and preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred Michael in Waterloo, Iowa. Wayne received his bachelor’s degree in business from Iowa State University in 1963. On June 7, 1964, after three years of dating, he married his best friend and wife of 59 years, Linda K. Michael, of Des Moines, Iowa.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Linda, and their three children and spouses: Lisa (David) Seuferer, Lynn Barrette, and Jason (Jami) Michael. Wayne and Linda have seven grandchildren, ages 1 to 29 years old: Alarick, Amelia, Rosalie, Carlie, Jason, Clark, and Westley. Wayne is also survived by his brother, Richard, and wife Beverly, and their children.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Wayne at 2:00 pm CT on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Roselawn Funeral Home, 5350 NW Broad Street, Murfreesboro, TN.

Wayne and his family moved to a farm in Jesup, Iowa, when he was five years old. There, he learned from his father many woodworking and mechanical skills that Wayne used creatively throughout his life, creating furniture, decorations, home improvements, and other inventive creations for his home. He worked as Chief Underwriter, LOMA, CLU, at American Mutual Life and CNA insurance companies throughout his career. After retirement, he worked part-time at Nashville Public Schools assisting with insurance policies for district employees.

Along with his beloved wife, Linda, Wayne also enjoyed spending time with their children and families, and loved camping, square dancing, meditation and spiritual studies of Joel Goldsmith. He was a sponsor for the teen Youth of Unity ministry for nine years at Unity Center of Des Moines, Iowa, where he also served on the Board of Directors. Since childhood, Wayne could be found reading copious amounts of books--science fiction, fantasy, and maritime topics were his favorite; and was rarely seen without his Kindle in hand. His soft-spoken demeanor was put on the back burner during his thespian experiences, acting in “South Pacific” among many others. He also shared his heart with others, providing chaplain services at First Church Unity of Nashville.

The family welcomes family and friends to Wayne’s Celebration of Life to share in the love and joy that always shone brightly from his big smile and heart.
