He is survived by his beloved dog, Buddy ; companion Nancy Hover ; sisters, Ruth Gaskins of Quitman, GA; Geneva Carr of Douglasville, GA; Reba Mitchell of Everett, WA; brothers , James O. Young (Shirley) of Lake Park, GA; Jimmy E. Young(Ina) of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Teresa Marie Wall of Sparta, TN; son, Robert F. Young, Jr. of East Point, GA; grandson, Robert F. Young III of Portland, OR; granddaughters Racel Marie Ledbetter (Joshua) of Cookeville, TN and Sarah Grace Wall of Sparta, TN; great-granddaughters Aniyah Jade Davidson of Sparta, TN and Charlotte Rose Ledbetter of Cookeville, TN; cousin Hubert Hancock and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was born May 5, 1944 in Nashville, GA to the late Samuel Etheridge and Fannie Bell Hancock Young. He moved to Valdosta, GA in his teens, where he graduated Valdosta High School and attended Valdosta State. He was employed by Sears, and was transferred with his job to Walterboro, SC in 1972, Calhoun, GA in 1973 and Murfreesboro, TN in 1975. During his time with Sears, Bob was awarded District Manager of the Year multiple times. In 1979, he made a lateral move to Allstate Insurance, which at the time was owned by Sears. He retired in 2000. In his youth, he did not always practice Christianity, but as he matured, he strived to honor the teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He believed in the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” He loved his family and fellow man. Bob loved animals, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and, though he was not very good, golf.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Samuel Etheridge and Fannie Bell Hancock Young of Valdosta, GA; sisters, Eula Shultz of Orlando, FL, Lois Lawson of Valdosta, GA, and Faye Peron of Quitman, GA. Service and inurnment for Bob will be at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Lenox, GA, his mother’s home church on May 27, 2017. In lieu of customary flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Salvation Army, or your local humane society.
