Jack was born to Fred and Pearl Dempsey on July 6, 1942 in Bay Minette, Alabama. He was the 4th child of five children and grew up on a working farm doing his share of work from an early age. At age 4 his job was to lead the goat hauling water from the creek for his Mom to wash clothes. He accepted Jesus as his Savior, March 20, 1959 and remained close to Pastor Fred Postman who led him to the Lord. He graduated from Baldwin County High School 1960 and served in the Air Force until honorable discharged in July 1966. The GI Bill gave hime the opportunity to fulfill his dream of going to the University of Alabama, where he worked full time for South Central Bell and completed his BA/MBA degrees. He attended lectures by Bear Bryant and was a loyal supporter of the Crimson Tide until his death.
He was a devoted and loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Vera Dempsey; daughter, Athalena Cornelia Dempsey Neal and her husband Willie, Jr; son, Scott Hampton Dempsey and his wife Beth Belt; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth, Anna Chelsea, Jonathon Ethan and John Scott; and sister, Nona Pearl and her husband Robert. Jack was predeceased by his father and mother, sister, Hazel and brothers, Freddie and James Cordell.
As his career in management led him and his family from Bay Minette to Birmingham, AL with South Central Bell onto Louisville, KY with Ford Motor Company and finally to Murfreesboro, TN in 1982 where he retired from Nissan Motor Company.
He was an active member and Sunday School teacher at Westwood Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. He faithfully supported Crisis Pregnancy Center, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Samaritan’s Purse and Boston Mission Church.
Due to COVID-19, a Private Family Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Celebration will be “Live Streamed” on the Facebook page of Roselawn Funeral Home at Roselawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens- Murfreesboro, TN beginning at Two O’clock. Those wishing to attend the Military Honors portion of the service are welcome to join the family at approximately 2:45pm outside at the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Masks are required.
