Edmund Wilbur Moore, Jr., age 79 of Smyrna, Tennessee, passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, December 6, 2022, which was his 79th birthday. Mr. Moore was the son of the late Edmund W. Moore, Sr. and the late Ruby Hodge Mason. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Moore; sons, Edmund Moore, III, who goes by “Buddy” and his wife Linda, Donnie Moore and his wife Valerie; daughters, Lynn Rusin and Jessica Cooley; grandchildren, Jena Bryant and her husband Joe, Jimbo Rusin and his wife Brandy, Cristi Cooley, Rachel Cooley, Edmund Moore, IV, Ana Rutter and her husband David, Adam Moore and his wife Sadie, Ethan Moore, Tyler Moore and his wife Jorgi, and Katelyn Moore; Five great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Ambrose and her husband Will. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremie Moore.
Edmund was a railroader for 38 years. He retired from CSX (former L&N) railroad. He worked his way up through ranks. He started out as a keypunch operator and finished as Manager of Operating Practices. He was most known for being a Trainmaster on many territories. To some he was known as the “Red Rooster”, others “Bronco Eddie”, but to all “A Friend”.
To the family he was known as Dad, Pops, Paw Paw, Mr. Fixer, and in his youth, Butch. He loved sports of any kind. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as coaching baseball & football. Baseball & basketball were his favorite sports. He played both during his youth. He was a fan of Kentucky Basketball and Alabama Football. He grew up as a Dallas Cowboy fan but loved the Titans. He always made the effort to be at as many sporting events and any events his children & grandchildren were participating in. Always there cheering them on.
He served in the Air Force for six years. In the Air Force he was known as the “Money Man”. He was a specialist in Finance & Accounting. While stationed in Arizona, he fell in love with his wife, Sharon, of 57 years.
Services to celebrate Mr. Moore will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Monday, December 12, 2022 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Placement will follow with military honors at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are cordially invited to visitation also on Monday, December 12, 2022 from Twelve noon until the service begins at Two O’clock at Roselawn Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Joe Bryant, Jimbo Rusin, Edmund Moore IV, Adam Moore, Ethan Moore and Tyler Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dylan Coleman, Mike Woods, James Scott, Jay Pelham, Shuler Pelham, John Terry and His Fellow Railroaders.
