Dorris Brandon Fann, age 87, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, surrounded by family. Mr. Fann was the son of the late Homer Brandon Fann and Lestie Mae Gannon Fann. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lavye Walker Fann, who passed in 2022.
He is survived by daughters, Kay Fann Young and husband Dennis; Gwendolyn Fay Fann Patterson; and son, John Brandon Fann and wife Mendy; grandchildren, Dennis Young, Jr, Regan Young Rooks and husband Todd; Summers Danielle Downing and husband Devin; Shelbie Taylor Fann, Lyla Jo Fann, John Brandon Fann, II, Whitney Mae Fann and Chloe Grace Fann; great grandchildren, Robert Young, Dennis Young, III, Maela Rooks, Levi Rooks, Marlow Rooks, Shia Downing, Lyra Downing and Jiraiya Downing; sister, Wilma Haynes; and his twin brother, Morris Fann; brother Bill Fann and his wife Fay; and by sisters-in-law, Jennie Walker Bomar, Bessie Walker King, Elaine Walker Overall, and Linda Hood Fann. He was preceded by sisters Virginia Fann and infant sister Rachel, as well as brothers, Ray and James Fann.
Mr. Dorris was a member of Wartrace Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Gideons International. He was a retired accountant and retired from the Air National Guard. Always wanting to be active, he also had a plumbing and electric business, chicken barns, and beef cattle. Additionally, he worked as a rural mail carrier for several years following his retirement. He served as a missionary in Africa and assisted with many Disaster Relief missions in the United States. He had a strong love for travel and music. Most of all, he loved The Lord, his family, and friends with all his heart. Anyone who knew this man quickly realized this and loved him in return.
A celebration of life for Mr. Fann will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Murfreesboro with Pastor Jim Gray officiating. Visitation will be from eleven in the morning until the service begins also at Roselawn Funeral Home. Mr. Fann will be interred with his wife in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. He is now reunited with her in his Heavenly home!
