I was heartbroken to hear about the passing of my friend Susanne. We met through a seed swapping group, but over time, our friendship grew into something much more than just shared envelopes of seeds. She had a deep love for gardening and an even deeper generosity of spirit—always quick to share, not just seeds, but knowledge, encouragement, and a little joy with every note she sent.

I still remember the excitement of finding one of her carefully labeled seed packets in the mail, often with a sweet message or a tip she thought I’d appreciate. Her kindness bloomed just like the flowers she helped me grow—quiet, steady, and beautiful.

The garden feels a little quieter now, but I know she’s still with us in every blossom and sprout. The seeds she shared will continue to grow, and with them, the memory of her warmth and friendship will live on.

Rest well, my friend. You are deeply missed.

I am so thankful for the gift of time I had with this very special and beautiful woman, my grandma Susan. I was her first grandchild and the first girl in the family after having three boys.  To say that I was cherished would be an understatement.  As a kid, I spent as much, if not more time with her and grandpa than I did at home.  I loved being at their house, it was consistent, safe and fun! Grandma always had crafts and paints ready to do with me.  We embarked on making candles once and blowing real eggs to make an easter tree.   Because I was the first girl, she insisted on putting my hair in pigtails with ribbons.  Those of you that know me, know I was never a girly girl, but she enjoyed it so it happened.  We played yard darts in the summer and had cookouts every Memorial Day where we listened to the Indy 500 on the transitor radio.  This woman was a very talented artist and painted with Bob Ross at his house for a class once.  She loved taking me to the Village and the Ball Store to shop.   Grandpa took me to some little local drugstore to fill a bag with penny candy, my "goodie" bag  as he called it.  Those eventually turned into Seventeen magazines and then subscriptions to Country Living once I became an adult.  I developed a love for reading watching her and my grandpa as avid readers.  Each on their end of the couch; one with a Moore cigarette or a pipe and one a Virginia Slim in one hand and book in the other.  These were the best days and some of my finest memories as a child.  Their house was the best place of my childhood. She continued to be a loving soul and mentor to me until the end and I will miss her dearly.  In closing, "I love you more than you'll ever know", as she would  always say to me when we hugged goodbye.

I did grow up around all of you  ONRY kids in the neighborhood, but she always accepted me and smiled!! As well as Pipe did!!
