Marcia’s family will be hosting an event to celebrate Marcia’s life beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10. It will be held outdoors under a tent in the Oakhurst garden at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie, Indiana. All who would like to join in celebrating Marcia are welcome, and dress is casual and comfortable.
But PLEASE NO FLOWERS…
Marcia was a modest person, and if you had asked her to describe herself, she would have focused on the basic facts. She would have said that she was from Xenia, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Dr. Robert and Doris Morton, that she earned a Master’s in Education and one in Natural Resources, and that she was an educator for twenty-nine years in Muncie’s public schools, including seventeen years at Garfield Elementary. After retirement, she continued contributing to her community, volunteering in various capacities at the Minnetrista Cultural Center and Friends Memorial Church. Already a Master Gardener, she also gave her time to many environmental organizations.
Her beloved family would take pride of place in her list. Marcia was married to her husband Chuck (aka Charlie) for sixty years, until his passing two years ago. She is survived by her children, David Johnson and Stacy Johnson, (husband Joe Tipton); her grandson, David Charles Johnson; and his three sons, Parker, Eli and Charlie.
The trouble with what people say about themselves is that they rarely realize how others view them, or the scope of their effect on other people’s lives. Marcia was a beautiful soul, whose warmth and generosity radiated to her family, friends, and community. Her example and her counsel touched many lives that were the better for it.
A sharpshooter and a ping-pong hustler (she was a nationally ranked table tennis player in the senior women’s category), Marcia had a quiet generosity and humor that drew people to her. Her wanderlust and adventurous spirit -- belied by her quiet demeanor -- were a delight to all who knew her.
Marcia's life continues because she gave so much of herself to so many. If ever angels walked the earth, Marcia is one.
