David Russell Terry, 87, Selma, passed away Wednesday morning, January 26, 2022, at his home. He was born Saturday, January 5, 1935, in Alexandria, Indiana, the son of Russell Lowell Stephens and Doris Ruth (Stick) Terry. David proudly served his country for over thirty years in the United States Navy and was stationed all over the U.S. and Iceland and Bermuda. While in the Navy, he worked as a journalist and following his discharge he worked for ten years in Civil Service. As a journalist he covered multiple sporting events, the 6 o’clock News on T.V. in Iceland, the Muncie Star, The Muncie Evening Press, and the Indianapolis Star. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. David was very proud of his five daughters and son. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his many jokes. Family members would all know of the special family word, “Schmock”. David enjoyed spending winters in Palm Springs, California with his wife, Lois. He was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed a round of golf, and loved watching and feeding the birds. His memberships include the Glad Tidings Church. Survivors include his wife, Lois Terry; son David Terry Jr.; daughters, Debra (husband, Dennis) Springer, Donna (friend, Dale) Mayo, Diane (husband, Tom) Leewood, Dana (husband, Doug) Terry, and Denise (husband, Harold) Rogers; sister, Margaret (husband, David) Plummer; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Lowell Stephen and Doris Ruth (Stick) Terry; and his aunt, Faye Stick. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Rev. Kevin Holt and Pastor Jeff Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by the Veteran of Delaware County Honor Guard. Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Due to COVID, masks are required at the funeral home and remember to social distance to be safe.
