Joy Bess Hooper, age 80, of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Joy was born March 22, 1940 to Walter and Retha Mitchell of Dequincy, Louisiana.
She enjoyed painting, sewing and scrapbooking. Joy was a talented seamstress and would sew her children’s clothes. In her younger years, she adored making ceramics. Joy’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her world, she treasured all of her time spent with them. She leaves a large legacy behind.
Joy leaves behind her daughters, Melinda Eaves and her husband Paul of Orange, Texas, Melissa Louviere and husband Will of Ragley, Louisiana, and Martha Woods whom she loved like a daughter; daughter-in-law, Denise Hooper; sister, Charlotte Ball of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; grandchildren, Amy, Erica, Jessica, Josh, Shaunda, George, Jeremy, Laken, Elise, Shelly, Lisha, Steph, Christopher, Bobby Joe, Troy, Natalie, and Holly, great-grandchildren, Blake, Lexi, Laney, Trentyn, Logan, Autumn, Lily, Allen, Jared, T-George, Kaylin, Michael, Evelyn, Austin, Barrett, Pip, Destin, Landen, Hayden, Jackson, Valerie, Connor, Jada, Alaina, Gabe, Noah, Bobby Joe, Charlee, Bane, Owen, and Olivia; 2 great-great-granchildren; and her furry special companion, Sam.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, George Jerry Hooper; sons, Curtis Hooper, and Verbie Hooper; sisters, Wanda Suchanek, and Nyla Dennis; brothers, Dake Mitchell, Earl Mitchell, JD Mitchell, Buddy Mitchell, Jake Mitchell, and Boyd Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Laney Parker; and great-great-grandson, Lucas Lala; as well as her parents, Walter and Retha Mitchell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Friday, January 29, 2021 beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on January 30, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Troy LaFleur will officiate the service and interment will follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery.
