Don met the love of his life Janie in 1965 and they later married on June 3, 1967. He then joined United States Army several months later during the Vietnam War. After returning from the military, Don began working at the paper mill in Bastrop, LA for 16 years and then attended seminary school. Don had a passion for preaching and absolutely loved the Lord. He was a resident of Moss Bluff for over 20 years and was the Pastor of Olivet Baptist Church in Sulphur.
Don's greatest hobbies were hunting, fishing and gardening, in which he had perfected. His greatest love and passion were his three granddaughters and he will be remembered for having a caring and loving personality.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Janie Goodson Walker; children, Russell Vincent Walker and Heather Nicole Oliver and husband James; three granddaughters, Jade Nicole Oliver, Avah Elizabeth Oliver and Myah Jane Oliver; and siblings, Grace Walker Evans, Ernest Lea Walker Fatheree, Harry Dean Walker, Phyllis Walker Hill and husband Butch, and Mary Walker Scoggins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Ernest Walker and Martha Clydean Wilkinson Walker and sisters, Charlotte Walker and Evelyn Hall.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Sunday, July 28, 2024 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, July 29, 2024 beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Westlake Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Tom Campbell will be officiating at the services.
