Myra Christine Johnson

Myra Christine Overbay Johnson, age 84, passed away on December 27, 2023, at Serenity House in Morristown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Estes (Jabo) Johnson, parents George and Hattie Overbay; uncle and aunts, Moscoe and Melba Stubblefield, and Kate Stubblefield; step-brother and wife, Frank and Mattie Overbay, nephews, Howard, Carroll, and Harrell Overbay, and niece Grace Walker.

Myra was born in Bean Station in 1939, to George and Hattie Mae (Stubblefield) Overbay. She attended Lakeview School. After graduating from Rutledge High School in 1957, Myra began her working career at the ASCS office in Grainger County and later at the Lee Wayne Knitting Mill in Morristown. During that time, she married Estes Dean Johnson in 1960, and they began their family having a son, Terry in 1963.

Myra devoted her life to taking care of her family. Myra’s mother and aunt became unable to take care of themselves, and Myra moved them in her home and took care of them until their passing, while also raising her son, Terry, as well as helping Estes with his cabinet business, Jabo’s All Wood Products and helping with her grandbabies.

Myra was a member of Adriel Baptist Church and also attended Old Spruce Pine Grove Baptist Church in her later years.

She will be sadly missed by her son, Terry and daughter-in-law Vicki Roach Johnson; two grandchildren Haley (Travis) Stiles, and Heath (Taylor) Johnson; great-grandchildren Reese Caroline Stiles, Rory Gwyn Stiles, and Poppy Lynn Johnson; first cousins, Helen Jenkins and Betty Jean McGinnis.

Receiving of friends will be held at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023, with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm. Reverend Greg Williamson and Reverend Bill Johnson will preside over the service.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Noeton Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Dennis Johnson presiding.
