J. C. “Jay” Morgan, 58, of Morristown, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. He was born on February 1, 1962. Jay was saved at a young age at Seals Chapel Baptist Church and was an active and longtime member of New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved to play the guitar and sing for the Lord, and also served as a beloved Sunday School teacher during his life. He sang in several gospel groups throughout the years. Win or lose, he was a Vol for Life.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Roy Franklin Morgan; mother, Gladys Ruth Barnard Morgan; and sister, Phyllis Ann Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pam Morgan; children, Jason Morgan, Adam Morgan, and Emily (Michael) Buchanan; sister, Beatrice (Kenny) Wilson; brother, Ralph (Debra) Morgan; a host of aunt and uncles; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Ralph Morgan, Rev. Terry Greene, and Rev. Bryan Cottrell will officiate. Family and friends will meet by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2021 to go in procession to Bent Creek Cemetery for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service. Pallbearers will be: Jacob Cottrell, Caleb Wingo, Robert Watson, Clyde Morgan, David Synamon and Mike Synamon.
