She was proceeded in death by her brother William Fugate, her three children, Benny Roger, Dennis Lyne and daughter Glenda Mae Juanita and grandson Cedric Teru Whiteside.
Betty Jo was a member of Youngs Temple AME Zion Church. Betty Jo was educated in the Morristown segregated school system. She fulfilled her dreams to become among the first African American nurses in Morristown, Tennessee. She was also involved in the MOrristown community as a organizational chair until her health declined. Betty Jo was an avid floral expert and was often seen working in her flowers.
Betty Jo is survived by her sister Diane (Charles) Treece, nephews Christopher (Karen) Treece, Charles Lamont (Angela) Treece, nieces Ulinda Fugate, Anita Springs, grandchildren Jonathan (Micheline) Parker, Benjamin Chad Jones, Misha (Billy) Fanny, Kemi Ely (Michael Chander), Martin Luther (Tanekia) Thomas, Joseph (Melinda) Collins, Lynetta (Eric) Burgess.
She leaves behind many other relatives including several great grandchildren and friends. Her devoted friends are Dorothy Richmond, Ruth Isom, Judy McElhany and Odell Barnett.
Receiving of family and friends will be Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Stubblefield Funeral Home. Her home going service will follow at 12 and burial immediately afterwards in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
