Ruth Diane Barrett

Ruth Diane Barrett, age 68, of Rhodhiss, North Carolina went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Ruth was born May 4, 1956 in McDowell County, North Carolina to the late Delbert Jagow and the late Charlie Mae Gaddy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Phillips, husband, Walter Barrett, her adoptive father, Bill Harris, a sister, Nina Carter, her beloved grandmother, Matilda Jagow, Step-mother, Barbara Jagow, her father-in-law, Charles Phillips and a sister-in-law, Kathy Greene.

Ruth was a loving and dedicated, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She truly cherished the time she was able to spend with her family. She attended Hickory Bible Tabernacle, and was dedicated to her church family. She was a caregiver, volunteered at Burke Hospice, loved to laugh and pull practical jokes. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed gardening and canning her vegetables and loved to write poems. Ruth never met a stranger and loved people.

Those left behind to cherish Ruth’s memory include her two daughters Lisa Carpenter, Crystal Johnson and husband Joel. Brothers Chuck Harris and wife Cindy, Robert Harris and wife Mary, Sisters Billie Strickland and husband Ralph, Bobbi Crissone and husband Lewis. Her beloved grandchildren Caleb & wife Paige, Brandon & wife Lauren, Kaitlyn & husband Danny, Bethany, Hailey & husband Lukas, Grace, Alexis & husband Albert. In addition to her great-grandchildren Caleb II, Myla, Hans, Henson and Ramon and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life to honor Ruth will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Coffey officiating. A private burial will bheld at a later date at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck Harris, Robbie Harris, Caleb Gragg, Brandon Phillips, Danny Florian and Lukas Coffey.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 2:45 pm until 3:45 pm at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
