James Lynn Medlin

James Lynn Medlin, age 77, of Asheville, and formerly of Morganton, NC passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. James was born the son of the late Jim Medlin and Josie Braswell Medlin on April 3, 1947 Monroe, NC.

James loved his family and his dogs. Usually, where you found James you would find his dog, Gabe. He taught his children empathy and kindness for others. James was kind and caring. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed.

Captain Medlin served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force where he became a C-130 military aircraft pilot. After leaving the military, he had a long and distinguished career flying for Delta Airlines. James was a "Jack of all Trades", He could weld, woodwork and metalwork. James also had a passion for working on old cars, flying and riding motorcycles. He was at home in his workshop or sitting by his pond.

Along with his parents, James is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn B. Medlin.

Those left behind to cherish James's memory include a daughter, Tara M. Radke and her husband Kevin of Lewiston, NY; a son, Patrick L. Medlin and his wife Jessica of Weaverville, NC; five grandchildren,

Caroline Radke, Sam Radke, Luke Radke, Jackson Medlin and Ella Medlin; and a brother, Ronald L. Medlin and his wife Marcia. James is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

A receiving of family and friends will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home with a "Celebration of James' Life" to follow with Air Force Military Honors at 4:00 PM in the Chapel with Celebrant Jimmie "JR" Richards officiating.
