Daphne Lorraine Kincaid Beam, 58, of Morganton went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, January 31, 2021. Born November 26, 1962, she was the daughter of the late Yates Allen Kincaid and Barbara Ruth Harbison Kincaid.
Daphne was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was a loving person that never met a stranger, she shined her light on all those she met. She worked helping others all her life.
Daphne attended Western Piedmont Community College, Ashford University, and Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. She began her career working at Western Carolina Center, the Burke County Jail and Foothills Correctional Institution. She gave her heart to so many people, especially the students she touched over the 23 years she served at Freedom High School. Daphne worked as an Exceptional Children’s Instructional Assistant and In School Suspension Teacher. She was loved by her students and colleagues. Daphne served as assistant coach with the girls’ basketball, volleyball and softball teams. She worked at the scores table for many years during Varsity games. Daphne drove a bus over 20 years transporting students to and from school, after school games and field trips.
Daphne was a member of Willow Tree AME Church which she joined at an early age. She was a member of the Senior Sunday School Class, Adult Vacation Bible School Class and Stewardess Board #3.
Daphne was preceded in death by her Mother and Father-in-law, Nora Avery Beam and William Pinkney Beam Jr., a niece Danielle Coulter, and nephew Jamie Jackson.
Those left to cherish her life are her loving husband of 33 years, Kelvin Maurice Beam, Sr. her children; Kelvin (Kele) Maurice Beam, Jr (Ti’Shalia), Zachary Beam (Chelsea), Raymond Beam, Natalie Beam and Chiareek Thomas; Sister Zinetta Kincaid Gibbs (Tracy); Sisters -in- law Louise Jackson (Jimmy), Jennifer Johnson (James) and Jean Beam Pearson; Brother-in-law, William Coulter (Renee); 5 grandchildren Jocelyn, Karma, Tahjii, Noland and Zachary Jr; 10 nieces and nephews; Sally Jackson, Angie Charles (Arrice), Scott Coulter (Amie), William Coulter Jr. (Chanita), Ebony Johnson (Alan), Brandon Beam (Courtney), Chris Johnson (Ciara), Kristin Beam (Tyler), Ethan Kincaid (Cheyenne), Alexis Pearson (Sydney), 21 great nieces and nephews including Braylan Beam, Cayleigh Beam, D’Miya Beam, Ava Beam, Alayla Beam, Lenox Tucker, Cameron Pugh, Colby Pugh, and Cassius Johnson, Special Aunts Ms. Bertha Avery, Ms. Shirley Kincaid, Ms. Edna Boyce, Ms. Martha Avery, and Ms. Rebecca Kincaid.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 3:00 until 6:00pm at the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 4:00 pm in the Willow Tree AME Church Cemetery on 2520 Willow Tree Church Avenue, Morganton.
Due to COVID-19,masks and social distancing will be required. Please keep Daphne’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. A memorial will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Exceptional Children’s Department of Freedom High School at 511 Independence Boulevard Morganton, North Carolina or Willow Tree AME Church at 2520 Willow Tree Church Avenue Morganton, North Carolina. Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton is assisting the family.
