Kirk loved his family, God and the church, and the beauty of creation above all things. He took great joy in spending time with his wife and son in walks by the river, kayaking, visiting waterfalls, and taking family trips to mountain cabins and beaches. His love of nature was reflected in the things he enjoyed---gardening, hiking, photography and sketching. Few people know that Kirk was a fine watercolor artist, though he was never satisfied with the beautiful works he produced. He was curious, enthusiastic, and interested in many things, especially in meeting people and getting to know them.
Kirk attended seminary at St. Bonaventure University, was a member of the Franciscan Order, and was ordained a deacon in the Catholic church. His family learned many important things from him, but most of all that love is service to others, and simply, kindness. One of his greatest joys was counseling young people and helping to make broken lives whole. He was greatly loved in the world and will be remembered long beyond his passing by his devoted family and friends.
Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, James Harvey Emmons and Mary Euline Emmons.
Those left behind to cherish Kirk's memory include his wife Louisa; a son, Alex; a brother, David Emmons of Key Largo, FL; a sister-in-law, Mary Braun of Morganton; a nephew, Major Cory Braun and family of Ft. Liberty, NC; a niece, Mary Faye Lyle of Phoenix, AZ; a niece, Mary Emmons Buza and family; a nephew, Christopher Emmons and family of Chicago, IL; and numerous cousins in Perryville, MO.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 30, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Kirk will be laid to rest in the columbarium at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.
