A loving father and grandfather, Michael was the kind of man who felt strongly that family was everything. He was there for everybody who needed help, always available to lend a hand or to simply show up for a visit. Michael truly had the biggest heart in the world. He was also a big kid at heart, his funny personality always put smiles on other people's faces. While many others had hobbies, Michael's world revolved around family and making memories with them. Each moment together was about what his loved ones wanted to do or see. Trips to parks, those crazy Walmart visits (where his children were encouraged to hide among clothing racks and scare people), the hilarious Alka-Seltzer prank in New Orleans, and many more precious memories will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones. Authentic to the core, Michael never dimmed his personality. Instead, Michael lived his life in laughter and love and family...every moment of every day.
Those left to cherish his wonderful memory are his children, Jeromy DeRouen and Lacy Barnett and her husband, Seth; two grandchildren, Iyla and Raiden Barnett; his parents, EJ DeRouen Sr. and Shirley DeRouen; and his three siblings, EJ DeRouen Jr. and his wife, Paula, Markham DeRouen, and Melyssa DeRouen.
A celebration of life will be held for Mike on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 11:30am until 2:30pm at Bayou Vista Skate Park located at 1300 South Road Morgan City, LA 70380.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests friends and family of Mike to add their special memories and photos on this page below.
