It all started in Des Moines, Iowa, September 15th, 1944. Born to Lewis Tennis Gray and Velma Mae Gray, Violet was the 2nd of 7 children. Growing up in Atlantic, Iowa, Violet loved to play the piano for the church and school choirs. After graduating from Atlantic High School in 1963, a unique opportunity knocked on her door which moved her to Washington D.C. where she met her husband Thurmon “Jack” Jackson. They were married in Las Vegas, NV in 1967.
After moving to California, Violet obtained her Business degree from the University of Southern California and became an accountant at Hughes Aircraft (now Raytheon) in El Segundo, CA. Violet would continue her education at Cal State San Bernardino throughout the 1990’s collecting several graduate credits in education. In the late 1980’s, Violet moved to Riverside, CA. She was an early trainer in accounting software systems and manager within the Auditor and Controller’s Office of Riverside County, where she completed over 25 years of service.
In 2009, Violet decided to retire to her home in Moreno Valley, CA. She spent much of her time traveling domestically and internationally throughout her lifetime. Within retirement she enjoyed her women’s bible study groups, yoga, and swimming. Violet went home to be with the Lord August 17th, 2022 around 8:30am in the morning. She leaves behind her daughter Marie “Ginger” Martin, her husband Charles Martin, and Granddaughter Marie Alexandria Martin. Violet Jackson also leaves behind her brother and 4 sisters: Dale and Chung A Gray, Janice and Guy Josey, Connie Gray, Shirley Gray, and Crystal Smith. Janice Josey’s Children, Guy Lamont Josey, Derrick Josey and wife Kathy Josey. Connie Gray’s Children, Brandie Gray, Ryan Gray and wife Ebony Gray. Crystal Smith’s children, Victoria Perez and Ashley Grout. Violet Jackson will also be survived by several great nephews and nieces Tatyana Roberts and Trevon Johnson for whom he spent much of his time in life raising up to be a man.
Violet is survived by her great uncle Stonewall Bishop and his wife Dixie Bishop, Her great aunt Julia Lee Bishop, and several cousins: Ward Walker Jr., Eileen and Anthony Pankey, Merle and Meltia Walker, Denise Walker, Pamela and Robert Stennis, Gary Walker, and Kelly and Damon Sutton. Violet Jackson is also survived by family members from her marriage with Thurman Jackson: Frank Jackson, Berneice Jackson-Baccus, and Linda Jackson. Berneice’s children Lynette Baccus and partner Joe Eggleston, Aaron Baccus and wife Tiffani Scales. Lynette’s son Christopher Baccus and Aaron’s children Jeremiah Scales-Baccus and Sole Baccus. Linda Jackson’s son Chesare Haeggens. As well as other nieces and nephews as well as many friends along the path of life.
