John Charles Lewis, Jr. was born on March 27th, 1944 to the union of John Charles Lewis, Sr. and Mary Dell Lewis, in the town of Plain Dealing, LA. John was preceded in death by both his mother and father his sister Bobbie Rogers (Lawrence), and brother Benny Joe Lewis (Flora).
John attended and graduated from Carrie Martin High School. After graduation, John relocated to Los Angeles, CA. and started his future in Los Angeles by attending trade schools for various interests and hobbies. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for 51 years at Cornet Manufacturing in Gardena, CA, before retiring in 2015. Fishing with his brothers and friends was one of his favorite passtimes. John also loved to play dominoes with his brothers and many friends. There was hardly ever a time when playing dominoes was not part of the weekend entertainment. His enthusiasm for car racing began early in his teenage years and never ended. He loved to go to the races, watch them on TV, and he raced his own cars at the track on the weekends. He loved helping anyone in need of his help and there was hardly anything he couldn't fix. And he loved spending time with dawg Remi. Music captured his soul early and he never stopped the music. His favorite music was R & B, Jazz, and anything Aretha Franklin ever sang.
John leaves to cherish his wonderful memory, his wife Gloria, daughter Jonica (Lynnae); their two daughters Amari and Autumnn; son Carateius; his three daugthers Ashlynn (Lance)and their sons Lance and Lincoln, Jasmin, Kaelynn, and son Naasen. His two brothers George Leon Lewis and Jessie James Lewis (Barbara). He also leaves three sisters; Betty, Shelby, and Dorothy (Kurt), and a tribe of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to keep his memory in their hearts.
At this time of grief the Lewis family would like to thank all who have offered prayers, sent expressions of love and kindness, and given practical help on behalf of our family during these days.
We are also especially grateful for the wonderful team of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff, who has given the very best of their time, knowledge, and creative engery, in order to preserve the life of our beloved and minimize his physical pain.
